cannot change apn on unlocked iphone ios4.0 help

Hey guys new to the forum I am having a problem trying to add tmobile apn for edge network. I see there is no option in settings general network to change the apn so i tried the unlockit on the iphone and i keep getting the error message safari cannot whatever for a unknown error, I read the solution that said try before syncing with itunes or restore and try again. I have tried both relocked and unlocked phone again same message also I jailbroke with redsnow and unlocked with ultrasnow any ideas please.
