want wifi on iphone 3gs w/T-mobile, no data plan

I just purchased an unlocked and jailbroken iphone 3gs on ebay. Put in my Tmobile sim card and I can use the phone, but no wifi access. Without the data plan, I can't install the fake APN.

This is all completely new to me... never even played around with an itouch, so I had no idea I was going to come up against something like this. Does anyone have any ideas for me.

If your wifi is not working this could be caused by the jailberak or alike you have done..

connecting to wifi isn't that hard.. go into the settings.. find your wireless network.. type password into it and you are connected

I think you're right. Problem is, I can't restore it to factory settings to reload the jailbreak and unlock without upgrading it to 3.1.3. And since it's a MC model, there's no unlock for that version yet. 

This iphone is new to me, so I have no restore points on my computer for it. Does anyone know of a way for me to restore it to factory settings with 3.1.2 ? I even tried uninstalling my itunes and installing an older version, but it still resets the iphone to 3.1.3.

I guess you are stuck then. Yes going to 3.1.3 will lock the phone to AT&T in the States . Maybe sell the Phone and source a iPhone from a different country such as NZ (where I live) which is not carrier locked by default.

         Like the admin said maybe your phone has problem. Try to sell it and find some other phone. This is the best thing that you can do.
