Data locked, but Iphone still shows up in ATT Account.

Hey guys, I used the unlockit method of locking the data. Now, when I log into the ATT account place, it shows that my phone is now an Iphone.
I took out the simcard from my pantech link and added it into the iphone
 Does this mean I still am getting charged for data or they're adding a plan?? Thanks!

This happened to me, even though I did not do the APN change. I had just turned off the data in the iPhone settings (iOS4 allows this now).A month later and they added the data plan to my ATT  account.

You may have answered my question though, I was going to try the APN change next...

It is just AT&T's policy if you have an iPhone on their network you must be on a certain plan/have data enabled..

I'm new to this whole APN thing so I have no idea what it is or how it works. I've bee browsing this site for about the last 3 hours because I'm trying to find out how to block AT&T from seeing that I have an iPhone, therefore stopping them from charging me the monthly data plan that I can't afford to pay. I would really appreciate it if someone would explain to me what exactly a Fake APN, and a Custom APN is and what they do because I have no idea, honestly. I've seen people talking about MMS, does that mean that I can get free text-messaging? I'm so confused! HELP!!
