i want to block my data on my iphone and fake apn is working like a charm. I also want to change my apn carrier settings so that i can send pics in text messages. When i install these, should i have 2 profiles installed? or just 1? I have a 3gs that i seem to be able to send pictures most of the time, and a 3g that is not sending them at all. they are both 3.1.3. Just wondering where i might be doing somethign wrong here.

Will changing the APN on a 3GS with iOS4 stop ATT from detecting whether or not I'm using an iPhone (as well as blocking all data transfer?) This is what I'm hoping for. Just turning off the data (in the settings) only worked for a month before they added a data plan on to my bill automatically.

All the "FakeAPN" does on 3.x is disable your iPhone from accessing data (in iOS 4 there is an option on the phone to do it). It will not stop AT&T knowing you have an iPhone (which you cannot do)

I'm new to this whole APN thing so I have no idea what it is or how it works. I've bee browsing this site for about the last 3 hours because I'm trying to find out how to block AT&T from seeing that I have an iPhone, therefore stopping them from charging me the monthly data plan that I can't afford to pay. I would really appreciate it if someone would explain to me what exactly a Fake APN, and a Custom APN is and what they do because I have no idea, honestly. I've seen people talking about MMS, does that mean that I can get free text-messaging? I'm so confused! HELP!!  Shocked

There is NO way of making it to AT&T can see if you are using an  iPhone. All cellphones have hardcoded ID's which say to the cellphone network who they are.

the "FakeAPN" was the method used in 3.1.3 to disable data.
and the custom APN is setting APN's for carriers which are on the official ones
