Straight Talk on an iPhone

February 17th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

20/2/2012 – Update: I have added the proxy information into the profile as for some people (I have no idea why) the proxy for data was needed. If you have tried in the past using the profile and it has not worked download the new profile and try again.

Since Straight Talk started to sell just SIMS I’ve had lots of email on how to get them working on the iPhone so here goes.

If you don’t want to jailbreak and get Data going (Works any Any iPhone) just:

– Place the Straight Talk Sim into the iPhone
– Connect to the internet via wireless on the iPhone
– Go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz (on the iPhone) and Choose United States, Straight Talk and install the Profile
– Cellular Data Works

If you want MMS to work as well and not jailbreak the iPhone then you can use the “SIM” Swap method but this only seems to work on the iPhone 4S. People with 3GS/3G/4 have reported it doesn’t work at all.

To do this you will need a T-Mobile sim .It doesn’t need to be activated and can be easily acquired from many places around the USA (I have been told)

– Go to Settings->General->Network
– Place T-Mobile SIM into iPhone
– A New Menu will come up (Cellular Data Settings)
– Go into this Menu and make sure the Details are are as below (Don’t exit)
– SIM Swap back to the Straight talk SIM Card
– Exit Cellular Data Settings Menu (Click Network up the top)
– The Cellular Data Settings Menu will Disappear now.
– MMS Works

If you want to Enable MMS (and you have a jailbroken iPhone ) then install Tetherme from Cydia and you can go into the Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Settings Menu and Edit them as below

Settings
Cellular Data
APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:
MMS
APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33:80
MMS Max Size: 1048576
MMS UA Prof URL:

Update: MMS Proxy Fixed … I had the name not the IP Address for the MMS Proxy . people have said the Name not work and the IP Address works.. but I’ll leave it as the IP Address..
Note: If anyone wants to update this please let me know) – I am not in the USA but talking to many people this is how you do it :-)

Does anyone know whether this unlock setting will be lost once I update 4s iphone jailbreak from 5.1.1 to 6.1. I’m aware that some folks choose to preserve their baseband before they update.

Unlockit.co.nz does not jailbreak or carrier unlock iPhones at all. It sets Carrier APN Settings.

Go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz from your iPhone to set the APN Settings for Straighttalk

The APN changer doesn’t give you data on an unlocked, unjailbroken iPhone 3GS while running iOS 6.1. I tried it about 15 times, shut the wi-fi off, left only the cellular data on, doesn’t work. I’ve tried rebooting it. None of this works.

So I have straighttalk. had a crappy phone when i first got my service. i bought an Iphone 4s and wanted to transfer my service to that. the first phone had no sim so i bought one from straightalk. Upon recieving it i had someone factory unlock it (it was an AT&T contract phone). The data never worked although the text and call features work just fine. the original APN was att.mvno. after speaking to straightalk tech support 3 times and having it changed to wap.tracfone it still wont work and they directed to apple tech support who proceeded to tell me that i need to purchase a $100 piece of software to fix my issue. using the APN changer i have used, AT&T, Straightalk, and tracfone and none work. at the top of the screen it say Tmobile. I am lost.

Trying to get my iphone 4s set up so I can send & receive pics. I need to download TetherMe from Cydia so I can change my APN settings but I don’t want to pay $4.99 for TetherMe… Any way to get around this or is there another option I can use to change APN settings? Thank you!

This worked fine for my iPhone before, but then I changed banks and didn’t change my cell phone info, so my phone got briefly deactivated. I reactivated my phone, and redid the APN settings because it didn’t work after they deactivated, but now it doesn’t seem to want to work. I’ve tried it multiple times, tried removing the profile and then installing it again. Any advice?

Thank you SO much! I couldn’t get a Straight Talk agent who spoke English well enough to explain what was going on or even to enter my e-mail address correctly…

This worked quickly and perfectly! Cellular data is up and running!

I am using an iphone 3g that had been with at&t, when my contract was up, i asked at&t to unlock it, did what the email told me to do. i switched to straight talk, was able to text no problem, but couldn’t surf, heard about this site, changed the phone to straighttalk for the apn, things was great for almost a year, now i can’t send or receive email unless i am at home on my wifi, can’t use internet either? the sim card that straight talk sold me was for at&t coverage, here i am again, not able to send or receive mail or use Safari, unless i am at home to use my wifi? I also can Text but can’t send any pictures? Any help would be much appreciated.

Late last year, I moved my iPhone 3GS (originally AT&T, and unlocked) to Straight Talk, and used this site to update the APN. Things were fine until last week. I no longer can use cellular data. ST advised that the network should be TFW 15.6, but mine is AT&T 14.2 I tried both the new and old ST profiles from your site, but on the phone, the carrier remains AT&T 14.2

Same thing happened to me, but mine is locked to AT&T. I used this APN changer and have been enjoying the Straight Talk plan on my iPhone 3gs with all services. As of the end of November, the cellular data stopped working. I used the unlockit.co.nz old APN to update and still have nothing.

Straight Talk told me they recently updated their system for iPhones to only support ios7. Does that means the 3gs iPhone will no longer be able to access any data? Will it work if it is unlocked or jailbroken?

I was able to choose United States and Straight Talk. It tells me that the changer has been installed but never gives me an option to enter new apn info.

Most likely it is carrier locked.. Go back to the Carrier you got it from and you can most of the time you can pay for it to be Carrier unlocked.
