APNs Added.

Posted 5 CommentsPosted in apn

I have added a number of new APN’s for Carriers and fixed a few.

If you think a settings is wrong please let me know and preferably give me a link to the correct settings from the Carriers website. There are lots of other lists of APN Settings randomly on the net and quite a few of them are incorrect so I really need the correct ones.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ with unlockit.co.nz

Posted Leave a commentPosted in unlockit

The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 PLUS are out but I haven’t got one yet. This is mostly due to Apple not releasing them in New Zealand yet until the 26th and then I will have to wait for it to be shipped so I probably won’t get one until 1/2 way thru next month (If I order within the first 5 seconds and they don’t run out).

I would have loved  a iPhone 6 PLUS one when other people can get them (Hint Apple or anyone else who wants to sell me one at non-extortion rates) 🙂 but they seem to missed out New Zealand for their initial release a couple of days ago.

Note: if you have a iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 PLUS.. can you email me some screen shots of what it actually looks like.

iOS 8.0 releases today

Posted 4 CommentsPosted in apn, unlockit

It has been a while since the Beta’s came out but first non-beta of iOS8 releases today to the public. As always  www.unlockit.co.nz still works with iOS8 and people shouldn’t have any issues with using it.

www.unlockit.co.nz does not jailbreak/crack/hack or anything your iPhone. It sets APN (Data Settings) on your iPhone when the ability is hidden when using third party SIM Cards . If your iPhone is Carrier locked , www.unlockit.co.nz will not Carrier unlock your iPhone. We use a standard  API to set the APN  Settings as documented by Apple.

Over the last 6 months we have added/changed a large number of Carriers and have around 1000 Carriers listed from around the world. These carrier settings sometimes change so let me know if any of the settings need changing (and let me know what the changes are)

If you are interested in advertising on www.unlockit.co.nz please contact me. We have over 60000 unique iPhone users per day visiting us . A great opportunity if you want to get your product/idea/message across to these users.

Oh yea.. the iPhone 6/6+ has been released!!

iOS 8.0 Beta1

Posted 2 CommentsPosted in unlockit

Update: I have resolved one of the problem with when you press Create APN on IOS8.0 Beta1 it does nothing , but there is still the issue of a large percentage of times when you click on anything on the home page Safari crashes with “A Problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded”. Yes 8.0 is only beta and hopefully they fix it in the next version (Or I can work out a work around with it)

iOS 8.0 Beta 1 is out for developers and people may have noticed it doesn’t work very well with unlockit.co.nz (Safari crashes basically). We are aware of this and will be trying to resolve the issue in the next couple of days.

Thanks for all the support..

What is an APN ?

Posted 3 CommentsPosted in apn, Apple, Mobile, sim, unlockit

So what is an APN? APN stands for Access Point Name. It is an identifier for access to data on a mobile network. It is a name usually something like “internet” with an optional username and password.

If you have the incorrect APN for a mobile network then you will not be able to access any internet from your device.  Every mobile network has different APN Settings and may be different even on different plans on the same mobile carrier.

Now this explains the problem. As there are over 1000 mobile companies  around the world including MVNO (Virtual Carriers) each of those carriers has different APN Settings needed to access internet from the Android, iPhone or whatever other phone a person has.

Devices like the iPhone only have a limited number of these carriers built in (usually the carriers which have an official relationship with Apple) but this may only for a small percentage of the total carriers around the world . Similar with Android and other phones, they don’t have the settings built into them for all the carriers.

How do you find what the correct APN is for your carrier? And how do you actually put the settings into your phone? This can be the hard part sometimes.  You can ask your carrier but sometimes due to various issues such as language barriers and even down to the people who answer the phones/answer emails don’t know (as I’ve found) . Getting the settings into the phone so you can use them is the next sometimes confusing part for people too.

There are a large number of websites which have APN settings on them but they are usually not updated a lot (or not at all) , largely wrong, so this website was set up to list all these APN and make it easy for iPhones (and others)  to get them into their devices. It is usually updated every week with new settings, changes and fixes.

If you have an iPhone and data is not working go to:

http://www.unlockit.co.nz

on your iPhone and search for your Country/Carrier.For other phones go to:

http://www.unlockit.co.nz/mobilesettings

on your computer and do the same and it will list the settings as well for you to enter. If your carrier is not listed please let me know and I can investigate the correct settings and get them added in.

Hotspot APN Settings not Saving for Users.

Posted 3 CommentsPosted in apn, Apple, hotspot, mms

Quite a few people have contacted me and there are others on other sites (including Apple’s discussion forums) have been complaining that APN Settings for Hotspots don’t save when changed. (Thats if you can edit them in the first place)

This is not across all carriers/countries/users as far as I know (It works for me for example) so it may be determied by what carrier you are using or other factors

I am sure Apple will resolve this “issue” maybe in the next update but at the moment there is really nothing people can do.

I just wished that Apple allowed people to set this Hotspot setting (and MMS as well) in profiles like I do with Data APN Settings.

Update: It seems this issue is affecting people who are using Carriers which don’t have builtin settings within the iPhone (Thus using the generic/default carrier settings). (Or I may be wrong)

Config setting security display issues on iOS 7.1

Posted 1 CommentPosted in apn, Security, unlockit

iOS 7.1 has introduced a number of changes but one of them is the way config settings are displayed to users before they are installed.

The first image below is one from Pre iOS 7.1 and the second one is from iOS 7.1.

The first issue you will notice that if you include settings rather than APN Settings they are not listed on the page and just has … instead. I include a Web Clip (Link to my website) which gets installed and this is not shown in iOS 7.1 here. If you click on More Details you’ll see it but most people won’t do that.

This means that someone else could install other settings on your iPhone such as proxy settings to force all your data thru a third party server. 99.99% of users wouldn’t notice that other options are included on the config files and this could be seen as a security issue.

The second problem is under the Signed part. It now shows the Base signing certificate not the main signing certificate name which isn’t that bad just not showing correctly who has signed the configuration file. Signing Certificates are easy for anyone to get but if you see that someone else has signed the file rather than the website you are going to, you could question it.

The third issue, well not really a security issue at all, is in iOS 7.1 things are quite squashed up and the Install button is very close to the rest of the other wording making it look not so nice.

iOS 7.1 and RSims

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Apple, rsim, sim

I have had a large of emails with people upgrading their iPhones to 7.1 Recently who are using RSims (and other “sim impostors” such as Gevey/XSim etc) as their iPhones are carrier locked because these devices are no longer working with iOS 7.1

For people who are using these devices I suggest people contact the company/contact that the got them from and ask if they will actually work with 7.1 before you update to the newer version or you will have an iPhone which won’t be able to make calls/data.

I suggest people actually get their iPhones carrier unlocked properly via the original carrier of the iPhone (Or buy a factory carrier unlocked iPhone) and don’t use a unsupported piece of hardware to get around this.

iOS 7.1 Releases Today

Posted 8 CommentsPosted in unlockit

iOS 7.1 Released today and the iPhone APN Changer still works well. There are many changes between 7.0 and 7.1 but none of them directly affect how the website works.

Over the last few months I have added a large number of iPhone Mobile Settings for various Carriers around the world but I add more over time as people contact me to add them in.

If your Carrier is not listed please let me know and preferably a link to the Carrier you are using so I can look up the settings and add them in (or a link to them directly makes it easier for me).

There may be a mistake in a few but over all I believe 99% of the settings are correct for carriers.

I am also looking for more advertisers so if you are interested in advertising directly with a very popular iPhone related site please let me know as well.
