Settings MMS Settings

Posted 3 CommentsPosted in Apple, mms, Mobile

About 1/4 of my emails from people are basically the same. How come my MMS is not working or they can’t send Picture Messages.

The Reason for his?

Apple gives no way of Settings MMS Settings via any Automated Process and if you cannot edit them by hand then there is no way of settings the MMS Settings. APN Data settings are 100% possible to do via an automated process.

There is the “Sim Swap” method as describe at http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/?p=631 but this may only work on the iPhone 4S and with iOS 6 I’ve been told the method no longer works.

iOS 6 and www.unlockit.co.nz and a little about the iPhone 5

Posted 2 CommentsPosted in unlockit

Just to let people know that www.unlockit.co.nz works with the to be released iOS 6 perfectly well the same as it worked on previous iOS versions.

I’ve had reports that the “Sim Swap” method that a number of people use for changing the MMS Settings no longer works so getting MMS Settings won’t be possible – unless a Jailbreak comes out .

The iPhone 5? well Yes It should work fine (as its running iOS6), but if anyone wants to buy me one I wouldn’t say no :-). There is no unlockit team of people, just me 🙂

Beta Version Language Localisation

Posted 6 CommentsPosted in unlockit

I have started to Localise the language in the Beta Version which is shown when your iPhone is set to a non english Language.

I have started to translate it to French and to Spanish so if you are looking at the App with your Phone set to these languages see how they look. If people have better translations for the stuff please let me know.

MMS on the iPhone

Posted 6 CommentsPosted in unlockit

A lot of my emails I get sent ask me why MMS does not work.

Apple don’t give any way to set MMS Settings via any automated process at the moment so it is not possible to set these settings automaticlly when I set the data settings via the method I use.

Maybe in the future Apple give give a way but at the moment there isn’t much people can do unless they jailbreak their iPhone or use a SIM Swap Method as described at http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/?p=631 for Straighttalk.

Another Carrier Fail….

Posted 27 CommentsPosted in unlockit

As I’ve said in the past I don’t like naming and shaming Carriers but I have take exception with my latest endeavor to get information will help customers of a Certain Carrier.

I have been rethinking about doing this more often now as Carriers have to be more proactive in getting customers onto their service and actually helping them.

Ok.. So this time I got a few emails regarding the Carrier they call LIME – “the Caribbean’s leading communications company” (http://www.time4lime.com)

I emailed them to their customer service email address regarding MMS Settings for their service. After a few emails they said all their settings there on their website and there where no more settings..

Go to :-Settings – General – Network – cellular Data Network
Cellular Data
· APN – ppinternet / internet
MMS
· APN – ppmms / multimedia"

I emailed them back and asked them for the other settings such as MMS Proxy/MMSC/MNC/MCC etc and they said they couldn’t help me and their was no more settings. (REALLY??) and for me to call 100 to talk to the help desk.. (As I’m not using their service (and not even in their country)) this was impossible to do and I found it strange that someone had to call LIME and the email support couldn’t help me.

So.. If anyone has the full settings for LIME and maybe if someone from LIME wants to comment on this issue with your service representatives not being/unable/not knowing this information it would be great.

I’ve contacted 100’s of Carriers in there past and LIME support seems very lacking on actually helping people use their service.

Straight Talk on an iPhone

Posted 394 CommentsPosted in unlockit

20/2/2012 – Update: I have added the proxy information into the profile as for some people (I have no idea why) the proxy for data was needed. If you have tried in the past using the profile and it has not worked download the new profile and try again.

Since Straight Talk started to sell just SIMS I’ve had lots of email on how to get them working on the iPhone so here goes.

If you don’t want to jailbreak and get Data going (Works any Any iPhone) just:

– Place the Straight Talk Sim into the iPhone
– Connect to the internet via wireless on the iPhone
– Go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz (on the iPhone) and Choose United States, Straight Talk and install the Profile
– Cellular Data Works

If you want MMS to work as well and not jailbreak the iPhone then you can use the “SIM” Swap method but this only seems to work on the iPhone 4S. People with 3GS/3G/4 have reported it doesn’t work at all.

To do this you will need a T-Mobile sim .It doesn’t need to be activated and can be easily acquired from many places around the USA (I have been told)

– Go to Settings->General->Network
– Place T-Mobile SIM into iPhone
– A New Menu will come up (Cellular Data Settings)
– Go into this Menu and make sure the Details are are as below (Don’t exit)
– SIM Swap back to the Straight talk SIM Card
– Exit Cellular Data Settings Menu (Click Network up the top)
– The Cellular Data Settings Menu will Disappear now.
– MMS Works

If you want to Enable MMS (and you have a jailbroken iPhone ) then install Tetherme from Cydia and you can go into the Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Settings Menu and Edit them as below

Settings
Cellular Data
APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:
MMS
APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33:80
MMS Max Size: 1048576
MMS UA Prof URL:

Update: MMS Proxy Fixed … I had the name not the IP Address for the MMS Proxy . people have said the Name not work and the IP Address works.. but I’ll leave it as the IP Address..
Note: If anyone wants to update this please let me know) – I am not in the USA but talking to many people this is how you do it 🙂

NZNOG has no king, president, or formal membership. It consists of the subscribers to the NZNOG mailing list. The group is intended to facilitate discussion among operators of networks in New Zealand on matters relevant to network operators.

Conference
Our annual conference provides both an opportunity to exchange technical information, and a high-value opportunity for NZ’s networking staff to ‘network’ amongst themselves. This is New Zealand’s only technical networking conference.”
